Questions for Mark

What is your favorite movie?

This may be my inner child speaking, but I absolutely love The Empire Strikes Back. It’s certainly not the best movie, but I can’t think of any movie that makes me feel happier to watch. If I had to give a serious or more mature answer though, I’d probably say American Psycho or Fight Club.

Separate from your emotional biases, what do you think is the best movie of all time?

Well for two reasons I can’t really answer this question. The less important reason is that sadly I have not seen every movie ever made. There are a lot of movies that get made every year, not only by big American studios, but also indie films, or foreign films. The more important reason I can’t answer this is that it implies subjectivity can be disregarded to pick an objectively best movie, which is not the case. There is no such thing as an objectively best movie, only movies that we think are the best subjectively, and can back up using objective facts. Even the objective facts are not so objective, because one thing that I think makes a movie better might be a downside to others. Schindler’s List is an incredible movie, and I think it being almost completely in black and white really adds to the tone of the movie. Someone else, however, may hate it because they just don’t like black and white films, and even if that opinion is stupid and they should be ashamed of it, that doesn’t change the fact that their opinion is just as subjective as mine.

To answer your question though, the objectively best movie is The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

What is your favorite animated movie?

That’s a tough one. I think I would have to say Secret of Nimh. Akira is a very close second.

Who is your favorite director?

Christopher Nolan, no contest. The guy is amazing, just masterpiece after masterpiece.

Thoughts on Quentin Tarantino?

I don’t like him very much. His movies are entertaining, but they seem very shallow. Pulp Fiction is the only movie he’s made I would say is actually great. Also, Tarantino just kinda seems like a douchebag.

What is your least favorite movie?

This is a bit of a hot take: Gone With the Wind. That movie is just so boring. I know some people hate it because it’s about the confederacy or whatever but I don’t care about that, the worst sin that movie commits is being boring as hell. The characters are bland and two dimensional, the plot is dumb, all the serious moments are done so poorly they come off as accidentally goofy (Like the scene with the pony). Clark Gable as Rhett Butler is the only good part of the movie, mostly just because Rhett Butler is a total goddamn heartthrob.

What is your wife's favorite movie?

Heya, Wifey Rogers here, and I feel like you won’t like my opinion because I’m not as much of a movie guy as Mark, but I love the Neverending Story. I watched it on repeat when I was little on VHS :)

(P.S. love you guys thanks for listening to Mark’s show <3)

Favorite TV show?

I absolutely love the Sopranos. Star Trek the Next Generation is also amazing.

Best movie of the year?

So far I think my favorite has been The Grand Budapest Hotel. Whiplash and Interstellar are supposed to come out in October though, and I feel like one of those will overtake it.

Worst of this year?

The Giver. I was never a fan of The Giver books. To be fair I’m not much of a reader anyway, but I especially didn’t like those books because they were weird and confusing, the second book had nothing to do with the first. I don’t know, some people like it, but I wasn’t the biggest fan. Even keeping that in mind, the movie was still awful. It was an atrocious adaptation. At least the book had subtlety, made you question things. The book made you wonder why all these memories are disallowed. The movie gets rid of all that though, tells you explicitly why everything is done, no room for interpretation. Just really poorly done, trying to shove the meaning in your face because they don’t trust the intelligence of the audience.

Questions for Earl

How would you label your political opinions?

Libertarian, I just want the government to keep its nose out of my business. Unlike some people, I don’t need 111 words to describe my politics.

The 2016 election is coming in a couple years, people are about to start announcing their candidacies. If you could choose a winner, who would you want it to be?

Well I’ve heard some people want Mitch McConnel, but he’s a hard no for me, the guy is too old. Ted Cruz seems like a pretty alright politician, but there’s something about his vibes that are off. If I could just pick any person to suddenly become president, I think I would go with Rand Paul.

What is your favorite meme?

14 year olds are not supposed to be on our website, you know? Just messing with you. I love the little frog dude, Pepe. He’s definitely one of my favorites. I also love the meme about that feminist Big Red. PATRIARCHY!!!

When was the prime of America?

‘88, for sure. Reagan was president, the USSR was crumbling down, the economy was booming, and rock wasn’t dead yet.

How is your daughter?

Pretty much how you would expect any toddler to be, haha. She asked me if I could make her millions of cookies this morning and I had to look her in the eyes and tell her “now sweetie, not even Cookie Monster could bake that many cookies.” She’s a sweet kid, if not a handful to deal with. I love her dearly.

It seems like you're a fan of dad rock. Do you like Pink Floyd?

I know a lot of people are gonna be disappointed by this, but sadly I am not. Their music just sounds too weird. I could never get into the psychedelic rock scene. I do love that song “Run Like Hell” though.

You talked in a segment last week about how art isn’t like what it used to be. You gave us some examples of how art nowadays isn’t really that good, but I wanna hear about your favorite artworks.

Michelangelo’s David is a must. I feel like anyone who has a passing care for art must see it at some point in their lives. The ceiling of the Sistine chapel is the most impressive artwork ever done. Aphrodite of Knidos is the perfection of beauty. There really is something about marble statues that convey so much beauty. The Romans had created genius works of art. The white stone, absent of any paint or pigment, is so symbolic of their purity.

With the looming fear of ISIS terrorizing our beloved citizens, what actions should we take to stop them? How do we, as citizens, fight back in our own ways? Is it really that big of a problem that people are making it out to be?

Very good question! I would say that ISIS is almost certainly as much of a threat as it seems. Though they don't present much of a physical threat to us in America, they do present a cultural threat to everyone on Earth. They are destroying artifacts, desecrating religious institutions, and their greatest goal is to destroy western society. Thankfully with our dedicated military action in the Middle East, we have already taken the first big step towards defeating ISIS. However, what we have isn't enough. We need to make sure that nothing remains of ISIS. The best way we as citizens can fight back is by electing people who will fight hard against them, people like David Perdue. Make sure to vote!

What made you decide you wanted to host a talk show?

I just love talking in general, and I love even more being able to talk passionately about politics with people who want to listen and continue the conversation.

Who do you think was the best US president?

Reagan for sure

Any new merchandise planned for the future?

For sure! We have our classic coffee mugs and stickers and stuff like that, but next month we’ll be releasing some brand new shirt designs to have alongside some of our older designs.

Do you plan on doing any in-person meet and greets in the futre?

Yep! Me and my producers are working on setting up events on some college campuses where I’ll give a fun talk and take some questions. I might even do some debates with students which will be exclusive website content!
